Thailand's telecoms market is characterized by high penetration of mobile services at over 140% and low penetration of fixed broadband at about 47%. The NBTC concluded a spectrum auction of the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands. However, the rollout of the national broadband network is expected to be delayed.

  • The NBTC concluded a spectrum auction of the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands by September 2018. However, the auction failed to generate significant interest from bidders, thereby leaving the majority of the spectrum lots unsold. The regulator plans to reauction the unsold spectrum lots in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands in 2019, in addition to the new 5G spectrum it had already planned to auction.
