This is an update on Ireland's telecoms market, covering mobile, fixed broadband, TV, and OTT video, operator initiatives, M&A, and regulation. It includes subscription, revenue, and technology forecasts for these services.

  • Ireland’s telecoms market has suffered from poor broadband uptake and underinvestment by key operators. Competition in the market has intensified in recent years. Mobile subscription count is forecast to grow by over 5% between end-2017 and end-2022, fixed broadband by 12%, and pay TV is set to decline by 2% as subscribers migrate to OTT video.
  • The M&A continued after the Three–O2 major deal was completed. A consortium led by NJJ Telecom Europe acquired the majority stake in the incumbent eir in April 2018.
