Consumers spend over $9B during Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday, which occurred on December 2, 2019, is one of the biggest shopping days of the year in the USA. According to Adobe Analytics, consumers spent nearly $9.4 billion online this year, nearly $2 million more in total compared with Black Friday.

As can be expected, these shopping days are used by consumers to make purchases of large items such as appliances and television but also smaller electronics, like smart home gadgets due to the often big discounts that can be found. For the smart home, the discounts had a wide range across brands and device categories.

Smart home Cyber Monday trends for top devices

Our brief analysis of Cyber Monday compared the original pricing with the discounted pricing in order to calculate discounts across 7 product types. These product types included: electronic door locks, video doorbells, smart speakers, lighting, security hubs, thermostats and consumer video security cameras. The sample size was a total of 58 product types using several sources, from manufacturer websites, Best Buy and

Average discount across devices was 27.5%

Across these 7 product types, the average ‘original’ online price was $205.08, with the average discount price dropping to $148.62, which means the top-level average discount was 27.5% this year during Cyber Monday for some of the largest categories in the smart home.

Of the 7 product types analyzed, electronic door locks were discounted the most, with the average being about 35%. Video doorbells and smart speakers were tied for second most discounted product type, estimated average being 31%. Consumer video security cameras were discounted the least, on average only 17% across 8 different product types.
Amazon smart speakers were discounted on average by 38.9% during Cyber Monday, while Google Nest smart speakers were discounted 32.8%.

For consumer security video cameras, Arlo was discounted on average 16%, compared with Google Nest 20.1%.
The top three most heavily discounted smart home products this Cyber Monday were the Google Home Mini (1st Gen) at a 61% discount, second was the August Lock Smart Pro + Connect, which was discounted 57%, and the third most discounted product was the Echo Dot 3rd Gen at a 55% discount.

The least discounted products were various Arlo cameras that were only discounted by 10%, followed by the Facebook Portal + at an 11% discount and the Sensi smart thermostat that was discounted at 12%.
