The Colombian telecoms market has witnessed important developments over the past few years and still has huge potential for growth, especially in mobile and fixed broadband segments. Fixed and mobile broadband penetration rates in the country are still relatively low compared to various other Latin American countries.


  • The CRC is currently simplifying the existing regulatory framework. As part of the regulatory agenda for 2018–19, the CRC introduced a project called "Design and application of methodology for the simplification of the regulatory framework of the CRC" to simplify the existing regulatory framework.
  • Colombia makes another attempt to introduce the convergent regulator bill. In December 2018, the Sixth Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives approved the ICT modernization bill in the first debate.
