Citrix is the latest enterprise mobility management (EMM) vendor to evolve its offering to a unified endpoint management (UEM) solution. At its annual Synergy conference this week, the company announced that Citrix XenMobile is to be rebranded as Citrix Endpoint Management.
Unified endpoint management is an evolution from an EMM approach in that the practice and set of supporting technologies help organizations manage a broader and more diverse set of endpoints and applications as opposed to just mobile devices and apps. Citrix has enhanced the capabilities of its EMM offering to support organizations wishing to embark on broader UEM initiatives, and has rebranded XenMobile to better reflect the broader value its offering can now provide. The company announced that, over the past year, it has introduced over 100 new UEM policies, enabling enterprises to manage a broad set of devices, including Windows, macOS, Android, and more. While the focus of UEM is often overly skewed toward conversations around endpoints and devices, in truth, UEM is more about enabling, securing, and empowering people to work in a more flexible and productive fashion.
Citrix also announced a new Workspace app for mobile that Citrix Cloud customers can utilize to access systems and applications they rely on to work productively from any device. The app provides a centralized point of access from which employees can access managed web, mobile, and SaaS apps and files. As the estate of technologies utilized by employees becomes more fragmented, significant value can be realized by utilizing a solution that provides a single point of access and interaction with these systems and apps, especially when optimized for mobile. The introduction of this capability is encouraging, and the solution will be of value to customers invested in the Citrix ecosystem.
