As head of the Cloud & Data Center research practice, Cliff focuses on significant areas of interest that impact the current enterprise and information technology landscape. These areas include cloud services, data center compute and networking, and software-defined networking (SDN).
Cliff has more than 25 years of telecommunications industry experience, encompassing scientific research, market analysis, corporate and product strategy, product management, and marketing. He is also a recognized thought leader; a frequent judge in many industry and technology innovation awards; a sought-after conference speaker; and an oft-quoted authority in various technical publications, including SDxCentral, Light Reading, FierceTelecom, eWeek, Network Computing, and Lightwave Online.
At Infonetics Research, Cliff led the firm's coverage of data center networking and the cloud. He also launched the company’s SDN practice, which went on to realize revenue growth of more than 100%. Cliff worked previously in the ICT industries in senior-level roles—as head of strategic marketing at Alcatel-Lucent’s enterprise network business; and at Bell Labs, Sesame Networks, NewStep Networks, and Nortel, where he enjoyed tenure.
Awarded national scholarships to support his graduate work, Cliff obtained his master’s degree in computer science at Concordia University, and then earned his doctorate at McGill University. Cliff worked as a research scientist and faculty lecturer at both universities, specializing in artificial intelligence, distributed computing, and computer architecture.
Cliff is one of only 11 Technology Fellows named by IHS Markit during his time at the company, an honor that recognizes his deep expertise and exceptional standing within the analyst community.
